LGBTQ+

LGBTQ+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning. We use the term LGBTQ+ while also recognizing this does not cover all the ways people define their gender or sexual identity. It is important to know that identifying as LGBTQ+ is not a mental health illness or disorder. However, individuals who identify as a member of LGBTQ+ community may suffer such mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, self harm, and addiction.

While being LGBTQ+ does not cause these problems, many things members of the community face does, such as discrimination, social isolation, rejection and difficult experiences when coming out. It is also important to recognize that embracing being LGBTQ+ can have a positive impact on one's well-being too.
